Hamilton Pet Photography - Suzie The Frenchie

Updated: Nov 17

There’s something truly special about photographing pets, especially when you’re capturing the essence of a dog as spirited as Suzie, the French bouledogue. My recent photoshoot in France with Suzie was an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, playfulness, and the kind of charm only a French bulldog can deliver.

Meet Suzie, the Star of the Day

Suzie is no ordinary pup. She’s a bundle of joy wrapped in a small, stocky frame with ears that seem to perk up at every sound. Her energy is boundless; whether it’s chasing her shadow, engaging in impromptu zoomies, or simply being the life of any room, Suzie knows how to make her presence known. But like any true Frenchie, she’s also a professional napper who snores as if she’s telling stories in her dreams.

A Morning Full of Action

From the moment we started, Suzie was ready to go. I positioned myself to capture her playful spirit as she dashed around the garden, tongue lolling, eyes full of mischief. Her little sprints were punctuated by brief stops to tilt her head and look at me with curiosity, as if to say, “Did you get my good side?” And she had plenty of good sides.

I also took advantage of the beautiful location to snap a picture or two of my old pitbull, Tequila. They are besties, and live together (yes I am Suzie's auntie)

The Magic of Frenchie Expressions

French bulldogs are known for their incredibly expressive faces, and Suzie was no exception. One minute she’d look like the happiest creature on the planet, and the next, she'd strike a pose of pure, serious contemplation. It was as if she was practicing for her portrait in the Louvre.

Did You Know? Fun Facts About French Bulldogs

  • French bulldogs, despite their name, actually originated in England. They became popular in France after lace workers brought them over during the Industrial Revolution.

  • Their signature “bat ears” were initially considered undesirable when the breed first came to prominence. Today, those ears are one of the most beloved traits of a Frenchie.

A Vineyard Finale

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to the beautiful vineyards of Mâcon, nestled in the Saône-et-Loire region. The sun cast a warm golden glow over the landscape, highlighting rows of lush grapevines that stretched across the rolling hills. Suzie, now calmer after her escapades, wandered among the vines, pausing occasionally to sniff the air and bask in the late afternoon sun. It was the perfect way to end a day full of joy, with the peaceful countryside serving as a picturesque backdrop.

Final Thoughts Photographing pets like Suzie is a testament to how joy can come in the smallest, furriest packages. Their quirks, their energy, and even their snores tell stories that deserve to be shared.
